Ramadan 2020 Updates

Overview of the Year

Expansion

Friends of Aabroo contributed $187,000 for the construction of the Aabroo Welfare Primary School and the Peace Home Orphanage. The school is 92% complete and the orphanage is 88% complete. Approximately $106,000 is still needed for tiling, solar system installation, fans and lights, drinking water system, furniture, supplies and installation of kitchen and storage area.

Ration Distribution

To ease the COVID-19 lockdown, Aabroo distributed flour, rice, lentils, tea, cooking oil, Roohafza, spices and milk to 5,032 Aabroo students (3,100 families) twice so far, at a total cost of $180,000. They also distributed cooked food to 558 jhuggi (slum area) school students and
their families at a cost of $29,400.

Production of Face Masks

At the Vocational Training Facility Aabroo made 19,900 masks at the request of some of our Friends of Aabroo donors. The masks generated $4,000 in revenue which was used to purchase food for the ration distribution program.

Hifz Program

In collaboration with Dar-e-Arqam Schools, Aabroo started Hifz classes in March 2019. So far students have memorized 7-8 juz from the Holy Qur’an mashaAllah.

Waste Recycling Program

Since 2007, alhamdulillah, Aabroo has been collecting recyclable waste weekly from 8,000 households, which is sorted and sold to recycling factories. In the past, this effort generated 30% of monthly school expenses, but has now been expanded to support 35-37% of the monthly running costs of all nine schools. Thanks to your generous donations, Friends of
Aabroo was able to contribute $17,000 to purchase three more vehicles.
